The 53rd annual Quebec International Peewee Tournament was a fantastic event and experience for the players and their families. All the players were billeted with Quebec families, during the tournament. There were 28 teams in the Elite Division and Whitby managed to make the final 4, before losing in the semi-final to LA Selects, by a 6-2 score. The game was close, as LA held a 2-1 lead going into the 3rd period, but a quick goal, 9 seconds into the 3rd period took the wind out of the Whitby Wildcat sails. In the previous game, Whitby defeated Nickel City Sons 4-3 in O/T. Whitby stormed back in the 3rd period to tie the game, after being down by 2 goals. Matt Rogowski nailed the overtime winner, sending the Wildcats to the semis. Whitby also defeated Oakville, last year’s OMHA Champions, by a narrow 3-2 win. In Whitby’s opening game of the tournament, they suffered a loss to New York Rangers, as the Rangers scored a late 3rd period goal, to win 2-1. New York also ended up being a semi-finalist, losing to Vancouver North Shore 5-2. LA Selects defeated Vancouver in the final by a 3-2 score, to win the tournament.
All the players, coaches and parents were very proud of the team’s results in this tournament and all will have fond memories of this prestigious tournament!
