Joe Haars (MD7 Blue) story as told by his nominations:

"We have been so lucky this year to be a part of Coach Joe's team.  Throughout the season thus far, the skill development has been incredible and it is amazing to see how far the players have come already.  Perhaps even more important though has been the team building and character development.  My son is always happy to go to hockey because not only does he have a chance to be on the ice, but he also gets to go work with Coach Joe and have a lot of fun.  At the beginning of the season, we had been advised by other goalie parents against sharing games as in their experience, it created a real sense of competition and lead to hard feelings.  We expressed our concern to Joe but trusted him to do what was right for the team.  To date, the goalies have been sharing the games but due to all of the character development and team building led by Coach Joe, there is no competition and the two goalies have become great friends and each others' best support system.  Through his involvement in a variety of sports, my son has had a number of coaches already.  When I told him that I was nominating Coach Joe and needed him input, it was very simple:  BEST. COACH. EVER.  Joe is incredibly deserving of this award and we feel so lucky to be a part of his team."

"Joe is a great coach and teacher of the game. He is always thinks about the kids having fun while working hard and learning. He sets goals that are rewarded with fun activities. He has made this season so far an absolute pleasure for my son"

CONGRATULATIONS COACH JOE!

Stephen Hill (Midget Select/Midjuv HL) story as told by his nominations:

December_HL_Stephen_Hill_.jpg

"Stephen is an OUTSTANDING coach, mentor and "Dad" to each of the boys and girls that have played on his teams during his long tenure in WMHA. I believe he has been a Coach with Whitby and the 2001 age group since Tyke. Whether it was his HL team or his Select Team, Stephen has put in countless hours to his practice plans and game preparation to ensure his teams were developing while having fun for all these years. For the past 5 years, he has Coached 2 teams each season...the Selects with me and his HL teams. How many coaches can pull that off with the success Stephen has?? I'd argue the sample size is very small."
"Stephen is a true role model for these players as well. He supports fair play and has never shied away from stepping up and taking that "problem" player or the weaker player that other coaches didn't take. I have numerous examples. He treats our referees, opposing coaches and teams with respect and expects the same of his teams."
"Stephen has never asked for anything in exchange from WMHA for the 1000's of hours he has dedicated to these kids. He does it for the love of the game and the players who come out each and every week. He deserves to be recognized for this tremendous effort. Whitby should use Stephen as the model for how a Coach should act and what the make up of a Coach should be. He is fantastic. As I said, I have literally coached alongside him for years so have seen him first hand in action. These players are lucky to have him and he is more than worthy of this nomination. I hope you agree."
CONGRATULATIONS COACH STEPHEN!
