Whitby's Minor Atom A-White wins (Ajax Ice Breaker)Tournament Sept 8-11

Whitby's Minor Atom A-White Team took first place in the Ajax 'Break The Ice' Tournament which we attended this past weekend

The boys hit the ice Thursday night playing our first game against the Clarington Toros.  Family and friends were in the arena supporting our boys with cheers and excitement.

We had a great start in the first period with a strong showing from our Defense along with several shots on Clarington's net.  Despite our efforts, Clarington powered through the second and third periods were they took the game 4-1.

Putting the first game behind us, our boys came back the next morning with a renewed sense of energy and determination against the New Hamburg Huskies in game 2.   Our Offense chased down the puck and showed our competitive nature - scoring a goal in the first 31 seconds of the game.

Our Defensive lines and Goaltending did an incredible job working together to protect our net.  This fantastic show of teamwork and effort resulted in a shutout.  We ended Game 2 with a 2-0 win against the Huskies.

Going into day 3 of the Tournament we can actually see the team improving with each game.  The Players are working together, growing stronger and keeping busy.  Our Forwards challenging each other to race for the puck and to control the game.

Game 3 has the Wildcats up against the Kingston Canadians.  Still basking from our win Friday morning the team hit the ice with a strong sense of pride and confidence.  Throughout the game Kingston kept us on our toes - Whitby was able to keep their lead and finish the game with a 4-3 win.

Moving into the Semi-Finals on Saturday afternoon, our team was once again  paired with the New Hamburg Huskies.  Both teams had their eye on the finals which made the game extremely competitive and intense to watch.   Whitby clinched a 2-1 win over New Hamburg to secure a spot in the final playoff game.

Heading to the Finals Sunday afternoon against Kingston, we ran into a unique situation - a number of our players were expected to be absent on Sunday for (previously scheduled) Rep baseball tryouts, creating a situation that could have a serious impact on our ability to play and perform as a team in the final game.  Players approached their baseball coach Saturday evening and were provided permission with blessings to miss baseball - enabling them to attend and compete in our final game.  With all team members in place, our boys played incredibly hard and finished the tournament with a First Place trophy following their 1-0 win.

Head Coach Todd Myles (along with our Bench staff )did a fantastic job with their team throughout the tournament - always reminding the kids to have fun, to trust each other and to have confidence in themselves that our team would be able to meet the task at hand.

We would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting us.  The team had a great time and are looking forward to a successful season.
