Take off for the Wildcats!
Your Minor Atom AE Wildcats had a perfect start to their season this week!

After watching the boys battle the Orangeville Flyers in the final of Orangeville's Fall Classic, it was hard to believe the team only hit the ice for the first time 5 days ago...an impressive first week as a team!

The team delivered two big wins on Friday afternoon and looked good heading into the weekend.  Saturday's schedule put the boys up against two excellent teams in the Orangeville Flyers and Milton Winterhawks.  After a hard fought 2-2 tie in the morning against the Flyers, the team shortened its bench (for baseball tryouts) and narrowly lost to the Winterhawks 3-2 in the afternoon.

The semi-final game Sunday morning saw your Wildcats in a rematch with the Winterhawks both motivated for the right to play in the Final.  The Wildcats were playing a great game and producing more than their share of scoring opportunities.   With great goaltending at both end of the rinks, the score was knotted at 0-0 until almost midway through the 2nd when the Winterhawks scored to take the lead.  All of our parents were very proud to see the great attitude shown by the boys who were undeterred and continued to go after the Winterhawks.  The momentum was all-Wildcats in the 3rd when the boys scored twice within two and half minutes to take the lead for good.  Coach Steve was very proud of how each player played and highlighted a specific play each of them made to secure the win!

After a short commute and quick break, the Wildcats went up against the hometown Flyers in the final.  The team played a very close game with the Flyers for the second day in a row and really enjoyed the level of competition.  After going down 2-0, the team continued to battle and although they couldn't close the gap, they never stopped giving 100% and made things very tense for the opposition in the 3rd.

It has only been a few days, but this team has already shown they can and will compete with any team they face...Everyone is looking forward to an excellent season!
