Minor Atom A Blue Wildcats – Silver Stick Champions
The Whitby Wildcats Minor Atom “A” Blue team headed into the Silver Stick qualifying tournament this past weekend riding a high, the boys have been playing some great hockey as of late and they were looking for that to continue going into the weekends festivities.  This weekend was going to be tough to win or even come out of our division but the boys were going to give it there all.

Heading into game 1 on Friday we found ourselves against a familiar opponent in the Duffield Devils who we faced only 3 weeks earlier in Niagara Falls but the result wouldn’t be the same as Duffield came out strong and handed the Wildcats a 5 – 3 loss to start off the tournament.
With the dark sky and full moon shining down the boys had to get up early to get this Saturday started but the boys knew what needed to be accomplished, a two-win effort was the only way the Wildcats would have any chance of moving into Sunday. The morning started off against North Toronto and with a solid effort and goals from both our forwards and our defense we were able to capture a 7 – 3 victory to start the day.

Our second game would take us against the Vaughn Rangers and with another solid outing by the boys they were able to capitalize on there chances and win 5 – 0 to end there round robin 2 and 1 which gave them the position of the wildcard spot heading into Sunday.

If the Wildcats were going to have a chance to win this tournament they were going to have to roll through a strong Greater Toronto team who went 3 – 0 in their division and were ranked #1 in the tournament to that point however these boys were determined, again getting production from everywhere they threw over 30 shots on net and came out victorious 7 – 5 and a birth into the finals vs Duffield.

Well Duffield again, they are a strong team. Well balanced across all lines and a star in net but these boys wanted this bad. They knew they had to stick to the game plan set out for them, determined to stay the course and bury the chances when they came was the strategy and it worked to perfection as the Wildcats netted a goal in the second to go up 1 – 0 and again in the third to take the final score 2 – 0 and another tournament championship and a birth into the Silver Stick Finals to be held in Newmarket Jan 11 – 14.  The coaching staff, family and friends got to witness a brilliant effort all weekend by these amazing 9 year old’s and we would love to wish them good luck as they represent Whitby in the Silver Stick finals in January.
