The Minor Atom AE team had lots to celebrate this week… clinching FIRST Place in the Lakeshore Division, and SECOND place at the Peterborough Liftlock Tournament!
It was an exciting finish
to the season for our Wildcats. The quest for first place in the
Lakeshore Division was a hard fought battle, going right to the last game of
the season. The boys rallied together and came out strong for their final
game, looking for the coveted 1st place finish.
Fresh off the victory, we headed to Peterborough to participate in the 60th Atom Liftlock Tournament. With a 2-1 record, we earned a spot in the semi-finals, facing the Burlington Bulldogs, the team we had lost to earlier in the day during the round robin. Our boys were hungry for redemption, and came out strong; playing aggressive defence and team oriented offence. It was a tight game to the finish; with Whitby winning 3-2, earning a 4th consecutive trip the finals.
Playing on the ‘big ice’ at the Peterborough Memorial Center, with fanfare and live commentary is not a moment the boys will likely forget anytime soon. It wasn’t the outcome they were hoping for, but these Wildcats fought right to the end, pushing the final game to overtime! Congratulations to the players and coaches for their continued success this season! Bring on the PLAYOFFS!!
