Minor Peewee A Blue Ajax Break the Ice Champions!
A great start to the season for Minor Peewee A Blue wth the Ajax Break the Ice Tournament.

Thursday, our first game as a team, took place at 8:30pm facing the host team with a strong 4-2 win for Whitby over the Ajax Knights.

Our next game was against Clarington on Friday afternoon. Clarington started out strong and up 2-0, but Whitby pulled it together and scored with 21 seconds left in the 2nd, and kept the pressure on winning 3-2.

We all had a great team dinner to celebrate our great start in the tournament at our home sponsor Bollocks in Whitby.

Saturday morning started early with a game against East Gwillumbury.  We started off strong with 3 goals back to back in the 1st, East Gwillumbury scored at the end of the 1st, and that put the fire in our boys who finished off with 2 more goals for a 5-1 win over East Gwillumbury.

That sealed our position in 2nd in the tournament with a 3-0 record.

So we were on to face the Ajax knights again in the quarter finals.  We played a great game of passing, back checking and great team work to beat Ajax 6-2 to move on to the semi finals Sunday morning.

We had a very early morning with an 8am start in our semi finals against the Peterborough Petes.  We started out with the 1st goal to put us up 1-0, Peterborough tied it up at the end of the 1st, but with our 2nd goal in the 2nd period we continued to play hard and keep the pressure and held on to a 2-1 over Peterborough to move on to the finals.

The championship game was Sunday at 12:15pm at the ACC in Ajax versus the Oakville Rangers Red team.  This was one of the best games to watch this tournament.  Both teams came to win, it was a tough game with hard fought battles against the boards and neither team gave up.  Oakville came out hard and fast and were up 2-0 part way into the 1st period, but that added some fire into our boys, who came back with 3 unanswered goals to put Whitby up 3-2.  Up until this point, Oakville had only had two goals scored against them the entire tournament.  Oakville came back and tied the game up 3-3, but Whitby took the opportunity and put us up 4-3 heading into the 3rd period. The 3rd period was pressure on both sides with a lot of scoring chances and with 1:21 left in the 3rd, Oakville tied up the game 4-4.  The remainder of the game was very exciting and with about 30 seconds left, Whitby did their last line change and off they went putting pressure on Oakville.  And with an UNBELIEVABLE less than 0.01 seconds left on the clock (the clock showed 0:00, but buzzer did not go),  we found the back of their net with a hat trick by one of our players to win us the tournament!

It was a great weekend watching this team come together to fight hard, come back in two games and go undefeated in the tournament to win the Ajax Break the Ice tournament with a record of 6-0.

Congrats Minor Peewee A Blue on an amazing weekend to start off our season!
