Impressive run by by our Peewee AE Wildcats
The Whitby Wildcats Peewee AE team has experienced a pretty successful season so far.  We sit comfortably in 3rd in our division, but only 4 points out of first.  Were it not for a couple of 1 goal loses we’d be at the top of the heap. Where we have shined is tournaments, going 3 for 3 so far this season.

First was the Justin Williams cup in Cobourg, where we were undefeated going 4-0-1 and outscoring our opponents 24-7 including one shutout.  We played division rivals Northumberland (3-3), Ajax (3-0), Oshawa (4-2) in the round robin all at the CCC.  We faced neighbouring rival Stouffville in the semi finals at the time-honoured Cobourg Memorial Arena. An 8-1 victory put us in the final, which was played back at the CCC.  We put in an outstanding effort over Northumberland for a 6-1 win!

Next up was the Oshawa Cup at Campus Ice.  Coming off three regular season games against Ajax, we battled Ajax again and gained another shutout in a 5-0 win.  We suffered our first loss by more than one goal of the season (0-6) at the hands of division rivals Clarington.  Our resiliency was shown as we rebounded with a 2-2 tie with Aurora and a 5-3 win over Kitchener. An early morning semi-final was played against Aurora where we came from behind for a 4-3OT win. We battled hard in the final and built a 3-1 lead over Clarington, but knew that wasn’t safe.  They scored one late and were pressing with the extra attacker, but an emptynetter sealed the victory!

The US Thanksgiving weekend we travelled to Leamington to play in the Southpoint Capitals Cup and see how hockey is played in south western Ontario.  We started off with a 7-2 win over Kent Cobras, then faced the Tecumseh Eagles for 6-0 win and another shutout.  We wrapped up the round-robin with an 8-1 win over the host Southpoint Capitals.  A return engagement against Kent in the semis resulted in a 6-1 win.   We dominated the play in the finals against Dayton Stealth (Ohio) but had a tough time scoring.  After playing keep away in the Stealth zone, for multiple shifts in a row, we finally broke the goose egg late in the second period, with a deflection off a Stealth defender. We put in another on the PP.  Dayton pressured us late with the extra attacker and cashed in one on scrambly play…but we held on for a victory and our third tournament trophy!!
