Minor Peewee AE Blue is going to the finals!
Whitby AE Minor Peewee Blue just secured their place in the finals and the achievement our Whitby boys just accomplished in the semis against Barrie, is beyond words. The hard work, work ethics, passion, and determination couldn’t have been more evident than in this series.

Our boys went up against the Barrie Colts in 4 tournaments this season. We faced them for the first time in the finals of the Milton. Down 3-1 going into the 3rd period and Devin scored 2 goals to push the game in OT. Owen banks in the penalty shot, resulting Whitby winning 4-3.

In the Oshawa tournament, Whitby met Barrie in the round robin. Whitby was winning 1-0 until 2 quick goals from Barrie.  That same tournament, in the finals Whitby faced Barrie once again. The sweet redemption fell a little short and Barrie won this tournament.

In November, Whitby faced Barrie yet again in the semis. Amazing goal tending by both teams caused this nail biter of a game to end with a 1-0 win for Whitby.

At the Wayne Gretzky International Hockey Tournament, the finals once again comprised of Whitby vs Barrie. It was a rough start with 3 quick goals, by Barrie, within the first 5 minutes of the game. Boys kept their heads up high and knew it wasn’t over. Whitby boys used all three periods to inch closer to a win, 3-1, 3-2, and then 3-3. With less than 2 minutes left in the game, a goal gave Barrie the lead and Whitby was unable to equalize.

Whitby boys knew there was one more chance. If they got to the 4th round of playoffs, the opportunity of full redemption was at center ice. The boys had to focus one series at a time winning their series against Northumberland, North Durham, and Belleville.

The long-awaited match up was set and the expectations of an exciting but gruelling series was just about to start. With an awesome game plan and strategic plays that even got all the Whitby parents confused, the series lived up to the expectations. Barrie and Whitby both came out fighting. Both teams deserved to be there, wanted the win, and it was such an exciting series that no spectator left the rink unsatisfied.

Barrie took game one with a gruelling 3-2 win, but Whitby took game 2 and 3 with two spectacular overtime wins. Kyle Costello scored both OT goals within the first minute of OT. Whitby lost game 4, at home with the score of 3-1. Whitby parents let their inner child lose as they made signs, bought snacks, cow bells, air horns, clappers, blue and yellow bandanas. Kids, coaches, and parents were all ready for this anticipated game 5. Whitby boys scored 2 goals in the first and never looked back. Way to follow the game plan boys which lead to the 2-1 win!

It’s not over yet, as the finals begin March 16th... congratulations to every single person who was part of the success of this series. It starts with the exceptional coaching staff who spent all season working with these boys. Looking back at the beginning of the season to now, every single one of those boys have not only grown as hockey players but also off the ice as remarkable young men.

Boys, it is not over. One last series. Bring it home. Go Whitby Go!
