Silver lining to a great Tournament weekend.
Early in January, the Whitby Wildcats Atom A White team traveled up highway 115 to Peterborough to play in one of the largest Atom tournaments in Canada; the 58th annual Lift lock tournament.

Coming off some strong league play over the past 6 weeks, the boys entered the tournament with a mix of confidence and excitement, trying to capture their second tournament win of the season.  Wins in all three games of the round robin set them up for a Semi-Final match against the host Pete’s on Sunday morning.  Strong play from all the boys, and a true team effort had us on the right side of a 1-0 score; next stop… the finals! Playing against a very strong team from the Ottawa area, we knew they would come on strong to avenge their 4-1 loss to Whitby in the round robin play.  Back and forth lead changes saw the Wildcats ahead 4-3 with less than 2 minutes to play in the third, but with the MTK goalie out of the net, they were able to capitalize with the extra attacker, tying it up and forcing overtime.  Despite some early puck possession, the hockey gods were not on Whitby’s side during the extra frame, resulting in a heartbreaking finals overtime loss.  The boys should however be very proud of their effort and dedication to earn a silver medal in such a large tournament.  Way to go Whitby
