The Whitby Wildcats Tyke Select 6 Eastman team were crowned champions on Sunday afternoon at the Powerade Centre in Brampton, Ontario after beating the Markham Waxers 6 - 2 in convincing fashion!
Our team suffered their first loss of the 2015 - 16 season on Friday morning to open up the tournament, 2 - 1 to the Markham Waxers. It was a different story on Friday evening as the team regrouped and refocused with a 8 - 1 victory over Peterborough Maroon.
On Saturday morning, Select 6 Eastman faced Peterborough White for the first time this season and it was a back-and-forth, nail-biter as the kids won 8 - 6. On Saturday evening, the Select 6 Eastman team was put to the test but emerged victorious with a 6 -1 victory, giving them a 3 - 1 win-loss record to finish second overall in the round robin, just behind the Markham Waxers who went undefeated, winning four games. This would setup a rematch with the Markham Waxers on Sunday afternoon for the tournament championship.
Select 6 Eastman started strong on the puck, were resilient, battled hard and buried the puck into the net four times before Markham even registered their first goal! The kids never relinquished their lead and ultimately tasted victory at the end of the third period with a 6 - 2 win in front of a very supportive and energetic Whitby crowd...
A huge shoutout to the dedication and professionalism displayed by our Tyke Select 6 Eastman squad this past weekend: Ryan Dunlop (goaltender), Luke Bouchard, Braydon Cornacchia, Kellan Cassidy, Tage Davis, Nixon Desson, Eric Eastman, Thomas Garland, Matthew Kivi, Beaudyn McIntyre, Owen Miller, Brayden Mitchell, Ivy Morrissey, James Raney, Ty Robar and Jack Short. Coaches Anthony Cornacchia, Scott McIntyre, Jeff Dunlop, Kayle Short and Dean Eastman were extremely proud of the accomplishments that their team achieved in their first-ever hockey tournament.
It was a fantastic experience for all involved. Way to go Select 6 Eastman! Hoorah!
