The Whitby Wildcats Minor Midget AAA team opened the season with a strong showing!
The first tournament of the season is the Toronto Titans Earlybird and 52 teams from Ontario and the US attended this showcase at Scotiabank Pond in Toronto.

With every OHL team and many NCAA Div1 schools eagerly getting their first glimpses of the 01 age group this season, the Wildcats had yet another impressive showing in a major tournament.

The team finished the round robin with a 4-0-0 record and and first place in their division, defeating Chatham-Kent 5-0, Grey Bruce 5-0, Compuware 2-1 and Elgin Middlesex 2-1.

In the first elimination game the Wildcats took on the highly regarded Mississauga Reps in the round of 16 and came way with a 3-0 win.  The team next took on the Toronto Titans,  and won a chippy affair 5-3.  In the semi finals, the team faced the London Jr Knights annually one of the best teams in the age group and a team coming off a 6-2 win over the Toronto Marlboros.  In their best effort of the tournament, the boys came away with an impressive 5-2 win.

The tournament finals saw the team take on the Mississauga Rebels creating a rematch of the All Ontario Bantam Championship game which was played less than 6 months ago in Rockland, Ontario.  The Rebels stormed through the round robin and playoffs as well to set up the rematch.  After leading the Rebels 2-0 through two periods, the Wildcats ultimately fell short 3-2 in OT.

A second place finish in a field as large and as competitive as this portends well for the boys as they navigate the upcoming season.
