The
Minor Bantam AA Wildcats travelled to Barrie this past weekend for the annual
Glenn Bellerby tournament which historically hosts some of the province’s best
AA teams.
Having won seven straight regular season games heading into the tournament, the coaching staff was confident that their current momentum would provide some well-deserved positive results as the team moves toward the final stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs.
Utilizing a strong team game at both ends of the ice, the Wildcats swept through their round-robin contests with four straight victories over Rideau St. Lawrence, Mississauga, and league rivals from Northumberland and Peterborough. The semi-final clash versus Kitchener was a back-and-forth physical affair that saw the Wildcats hold on to an early lead throughout the game, ultimately ending in a 4-2 victory. Unfortunately, the string of victories would come to an end in the Championship Final against the hometown Colts. The boys fought valiantly but the score did not end in their favour.
Well done, boys! Congratulations on a strong team effort and a well-earned silver medal for your trophy case! OMHA playoffs, here we come…
