Whitby Midget AA win Justin Williams Cup
The Whitby Midget AA team won their first tournament of the year this weekend at the Justin Williams Cup in Cobourg, Ontario.  A solid team effort saw the Midgets defeat the Gloucester Rangers in the tournament final with a decisive 4-1 victory.

Whitby finished the pool play with a 2-1 record, thanks to identical 3-0 victories over Northumberland A, and the Windsor Spitfires, and a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Gloucester Rangers.  Entering the playoff round as the 3rd seed, Whitby rode the hot goaltending of second year netminder Matt Thompson to a 2-0 shut-out victory over the Ottawa Valley Aces.  This set up a return date with Gloucester in the tournament final.  After a scoreless first period Whitby finally broke the ice in the second period with a goal from Ty Gardner set up by Jaydon Bungaro.  Additional markers from Scott Reed, Alex Dillon and Shayne O’Keefe saw Whitby surge out to a 4-0 lead early in the third.  Although Gloucester was able to get one back with a power-play tally late in the third period, the Midgets held their lead with strong defensive play to bring home the victory and tournament championship. Congratulations Boys!!
