Quarter final series win for Peewee AE!!
We knew, with 2 one goal losses and a tie in the regular season and a tie & a win in tournament play, that going into the series against Northumberland we'd be in for a tough battle.
We took game one 4-2 in their barn and knew they'd be coming back hard in game 2 back at McKinney. We found ourselves down 1-0 midway through the first and struggled to gain any offensive momentum. Then we opened the floodgates with a 4 goal 2nd period. The Nighthawks battled hard and got one to close the gap, but our boys found the next level and banged home 3 more in the third to take a 2-0 series lead.
Back to Port Hope for a potential sweep and undisciplined play and disgruntled bench crept into our game. We were in it til the end with ample power play opportunities, but came away on the wrong side of a 3-2 battle.
Tonight at McKinney, with family, friends, APs, A White and WMHA President Vince Carere in the crowd, we put on a solid display of team hockey. We hemmed Northumberland in their end for long stretches but couldn't get much behind their solid goaltender. Down 3-1 with 4 minutes left in the 3rd, it looked like we might be heading back to Port Hope for game 5. Our resilient bunch scored 2 to send it to OT where we finished them off with a gritty "throw the puck at the net and whack away" performance! It may not have been the game plan but the boys pulled off a victory and series win, so we're off to the semifinals against Milton White. Congratulations boys!!
