Cole was a part of Whitby Minor Hockey  from 2007 to 2017 with the U16 AAA team. While playing for Whitby, his teams participated in multiple OMHA Championships winning the Red Hats three times.  Cole represented  Whitby in the Quebec International PeeWee.

Cole was drafted 5th overall in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection by the Saginaw Spirit, and went on to lead all OHL rookies in both goals (37) and points (74) He was named to the OHL 1st All Rookie team. He continued his OHL success in 2019-20, being named both the OHL and CHL Scholastic Player of the Year in a season that saw him record 37 goals and 74 assists for 111 points in 61 games. Cole also has represented Canada numerous times on the international stage including at the World U17 Challenge, the U18 Hlinka-Gretzky, where he led the tournament in scoring, as well as being named twice to the Canadian World Junior team.  In 2020 Cole was drafted 10th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL Draft, and in 2021 he helped Canada take home Gold in the IIHF Men's World Championship.
