Registration Information (Whitby Minor Hockey)

PrintRegistration Information

Registration is now open for all WMHA programs and will remain open until September 25th.

WMHA is a not for profit organization. The largest single cost of hockey is the ice. WMHA is required to confirm ice contracts with the Town of Whitby and Canlan Ice Sports prior to the season starting. Our registration rate of $650 is based on the estimated number of players expected for the season.

There are a limited number of spaces available in each division. This is due to limited ice availability and a mandated reduction in team size. In a typical season teams have between 12-18 players per team depending on age. This season, in order to adhere to the restrictions placed upon hockey teams by the Town of Whitby, OMHA and OHF we can only have 10 players per team.

Some divisions in House League are full and accepting players on a waiting list

To place your player on a waiting list please complete the House League Waiting List form. WMHA will be contacting you in early October advise you if a place has become available. If you have any questions please contact us

WMHA is committed to keeping hockey as affordable as possible. In the 2019-2020 season the registration rate was $675 with an early registration rate of $575.

For 2020-2021 the registration rate has been reduced to $650, this will be paid in two installments. The first installment is due upon registration and is $400, the second installment of $250 is due January 1st, 2021.

The first payment of $400 covers one-time costs such as credit card processing fees, player insurance and team registration, jersey and socks as well as ongoing costs including ice, officials, Headstart development (younger ages) and administration to the end of December 2020.   The second payment in January covers ice, officials, Headstart development (younger ages) and administration to the end of the season.

The reduction in the size of teams means each ice slot costs $3.20 to $6.00 more per player.  Over an 18week season with 2 ice times per week the cost of ice has increased $115 to $216 per player.  The actual increase in cost will depend on the number of registrations.

Parents can find financial support resources on our website Registration - Financial Support; and if you require alternate payment arrangements please contact our office

There is no in person registration as all WMHA staff are working remotely during this time.

Please ensure you select staggered payments when processing your registration through the Hockey Canada website.

Once you have registered you have committed to the payment schedule. Failure to complete the second payment will result in member not in good standing status. A fee of $50 will be added to any declined payment requiring WMHA to follow up on collection.

WMHA has set the initial plan and is committing to ice contracts to provide teams three ice slots per week. The number of teams expected has been based on all 2019-2020 representative players returning for the 2020-2021 season.

The cost of this program will not exceed $1,700 per player.

A payment plan will be spread throughout September to February but is not an equal amount each month.  Costs such as credit card processing, registration system fees, administrative costs, player insurance, jersey/socks, September and October ice/officials/development must be covered within the first two payments.  The remaining payments will be laid out to cover the monthly ice/officials/development costs.
