Ryan was a part of the Whitby Minor Hockey Association from 2008 until 2019. Ryan finished his minor hockey career with back to back OMHA AAA championships in both his Bantam and Minor Midget years, and led U16 ETAHL players with 38 goals in 36 games in his Minor Midget season. Ryan would continue his success after leaving for the OHL, winning World Junior Championship gold in 2020-21, followed by an OHL championship in 2021-22. Ryan was drafted 67th overall to the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 draft, then finished his OHL career by leading the league in playoff points with 29 in 21 games in 2022-23.
