Our History - WMHA Alumni
Our hockey roots are deep!
Organized hockey began in Whitby in 1943 and has been a proud member of the OMHA for over 79 years. Brooklin and Whitby hockey associations amalgamated in 1971. Whitby Minor Hockey Association’s unsurpassed reputation has grown extensively. The Association currently boasts a membership of over 2,000 players that encompass over 100 House League teams and 40 Representative teams.
WMHA takes pride in providing the opportunity for all players to participate in various levels of hockey, consistent with each player’s level of skill and interest.
The Whitby Wildcats are proud of their illustrious alumnae who went on to play in the AHL/NHL – Matt Poitras, Ryan Winterton, Cole Perfetti, Jonah Gadjovich, James Neal, Wayne Primeau, Keith Primeau, Joe Nieuwendyk, Paul Ranger, Jay Harrison, Jamie Allison, Adam Foote and Gary Roberts.

Did you know that our U10/U12/U14/U16 AAA teams receive an automatic invitation to the most prestigious tournament in North America? For our U16 AAA players, this is the best way to be seen by OHL scouts!
OHL Priority Selection
Every April, WMHA players consistently hear their names called for the OHL Priority Selection Draft. WMHA games are regularly scouted through league play and tournaments.
Proven Success
Over the last 10 years Whitby Minor Hockey has won close to 30 OMHA Championships at multiple levels! WMHA is proud to host the OMHA Championships at the Representative 'A' level for consecutive seasons.

WMHA programming is lucky to have the best facilities in the region!
Our arenas include everything you need to help you achieve your goals:

· Dedicated WMHA dressing room (Pad 1 at Iroquois Arena)
· Bardown Gastro Pub onsite – WMHA games streamed live
The Town of Whitby is also constructing a state-of-the-art new community complex – with 2 brand new dedicated hockey rinks slated to open in 2026.
WMHA Programming
As one of the largest Minor Hockey Associations in the Province, WMHA is proud to offer a wide array of opportunities for our hockey players. With close to 40 teams at the Representative level, WMHA offers two teams at the A level for all age groups to complement our AAA, AA, and B/BB teams. Our House League program includes close to 60 teams at all age groups providing our players with a recreational level opportunity that is fun, engaging, and competitive. Finally, WMHA provides our U8 and U9 players with one of the most comprehensive and development focused MD programs that provides additional ice time, instruction, and games.
With access to nine pads of ice across the Whitby/Brooklin area and more to come in 2026, WMHA is able to provide our players with affordable and accommodating ice times to meet the needs of our players, families, and coaches.

Development
WMHA offers player development from some of the best in the region – all included in your registration costs. Current development partners included DHD, Edge Hockey, Headstart Hockey and Burnsy’s Hockey.
Coaching
WMHA makes our coach selection process a top priority. We are committed to finding coaches who will develop our players to their full potential – both on and off the ice. Many of our coaches have played at the junior and professional level. Our coaches know what it takes to help players achieve success!!
