Coach John brings 5 years of on-ice coaching experience with the OMHA and a background as a competitive minor hockey player. With a calm, professional, and organized approach, he emphasizes high-tempo, engaging practices that help players develop and improve skills, hockey IQ, confidence, and teamwork. Focused on long-term development, he is committed to guiding players both on and off the ice, helping them grow as athletes and individuals. He believes the challenges and teamwork in hockey foster discipline, dedication and character, providing lessons that extend well beyond the rink.
U12 A White – Derek Young
Coach Derek Young brings a powerful blend of elite playing experience, proven coaching leadership, and professional discipline to every team he leads. A former professional player and NCAA Division I captain, Derek understands the standards of preparation, accountability, and commitment required to succeed at higher levels of the game. With over 10 years of coaching experience across multiple age groups , including Head Coach roles with the Oshawa Hawks and Oshawa Minor Generals, he is deeply committed to long-term player development, age-appropriate skill progression, confidence-building, and team culture. A product of local Whitby minor hockey who also played for the Whitby Dunlops, Derek values community, pride in the jersey, and giving back to the game that shaped him. His goal is to create an environment where players are challenged to grow, supported as teammates, and inspired to believe in themselves, on and off the ice.
