Pickering Spring Thaw Tournament Champions!!
This past weekend, the U11 Select Whitby Wildcats took the
ice at the Pickering Spring Thaw Tournament -their first of the year. The boys
played 4 games in the round robin starting Thursday night and finished with a
well deserved 3-1 record with 17 GF & 7 GA, setting them up for the Semi
Final match early Sunday morning against Kingston. The players rose to the
challenge and when faced with a little adversity came through winning with a thriller
in an OT shootout, punching their ticket to the Finals and a rematch against the Barrie
Colts to whom they lost against in the round robin.
The boys battled hard in the Finals in a back and forth game. Both teams trading chances until Whitby scored mid way through the 2nd period. They were able to maintain that lead until the very end earning them the Gold Medal with a 1-0 win over Barrie.
The coaching staff could not be more proud of the effort and work the boys put into this weekend. Representing themselves and their hometown of Whitby. We all shared many great moments with the boys and their families and the weekend brought them even closer together.
