Message from WMHA

As many of you may be aware, in March 2017, Hockey Canada announced sweeping changes to the Development Program for Tyke 6 (players with the birth year of 2011) for this coming season.  The objective is to deliver a Development Program aimed at improving the overall experience for the players, while ensuring that core skills development is at the centre of the program delivered.

It is extremely important to note that this a mandated change by Hockey Canada.  WMHA, along with all associations across the nation are required to participate.  There is no ability to "opt out".

As a result, the WMHA’s focus is to ensure that the experience and program delivered to its membership is not only a positive one, but one of the best around.   WMHA's Board of Directors has been proactive and have purchased a full set of boards and time clocks to help deliver this revised programming.  The WMHA wants our 2011 born players to have a great experience this season.   To ensure the Association is on the right track, we have reached out to other associations, both in Ontario, and across Canada, who have implemented the program to gain some insight.

For those wishing more information, Hockey Canada has pulled together an article outlining the reasoning for the changes.

We look forward to communicating additional details as planning for the 2017-2018 season progresses.
