President's Message
Submitted By Sandra Perfetti on Friday, October 5, 2018
The hockey season is upon and us and the action is in full swing!

This year is a special one for Whitby Minor Hockey. We are celebrating a milestone with our 75th Anniversary.

To commemorate this event we have joined forces with MLSE and the Toronto Marlies to host a community event here in Whitby on Wednesday October 24th. While this event is being held under WMHA, the event is open to all members of our community. As an association and group we are fortunate in that we can leverage our relationships to get the whole community involved. As the date approaches reach out to neighbours and children in the community to take part in this event.

There has been some changes in how WMHA will operate this season. One of the key changes introduced last season was the official hiring of a General Manager, Sandra Perfetti. Over the summer, Jane Sedo was brought on as a key resource for our GM. Jane’s focus will be to support Sandra and the association with events and outreach programming.

WMHA is also happy to announce that Sue Robinson will be joining the association to serve as it’s Ombudsman. This role will be a pilot project for the coming season. The primary objective of this new role in the association is intended to streamline communication and address membership questions and concerns in an effective manner. All communication and concerns will be documented and formal responses provided by Sue Robinson.

Sue Robinson brings a great resume to the table. Some may recognize the name. Sue was the Regional Director for Region 6 of the OMHA.  Additionally, Sue served on Whitby’s board for over 10 years. Her knowledge of the game and it's rules will be leveraged to support Sandra and the board.

Finally, a formal communication has been released  by our association in relation to the OHF’s recent message and mandate in reference to Gender Identity. WMHA is in strong support and agreement behind the objectives outlined under Gender Identity mandate. To ensure the message and objectives are achieved, the association will be working with its coaches, parents and most importantly players to ensure that all special requests and needs identified under this mandate are properly supported.

In closing, I want to remind all members that we are all here to provide everyone with a safe and happy environment for everyone. Code of conduct forms will be provided to every participant in our association. We all play a key role in the association.  The ultimate goal for us is to see that development of children’s self-esteem and their confidence grow. This growth will help shape define who they are and pave the way to a successful future. Lets work together to make this happen.
