Message from WMHA

WMHA Players and Families, 

We hope you and your family are well and staying healthy during this unprecedented time. In the midst of uncertainty, we want to provide you with some information related to what has transpired last month and what we are anticipating over the next six months. 

Last month Hockey Canada announced that all hockey-related activities must be suspended effective March 13th, 2020.  As such, our 2019-20 season was suspended. 

On March 13th the Town of Whitby notified us of facility closures that would impact IPSC, McKinney and Luther Vipond Arena. This closure is ongoing and will be re-assessed in the coming months.   

Also last month, the OHF announced to their member partners that Representative Spring Tryouts would not take place in April. Over the coming months, we anticipate receiving more information related to when we can expect tryouts to take place and are committed to sharing this with you as soon as it becomes available.
 
We know that to many of you, the untimely end to the season is very disappointing and perhaps felt very abrupt. Above all, the health of our players and the hockey community remains our top priority. We fully support the direction from Hockey Canada but are equally disappointed that our players did not have the opportunity to play out the remainder of their season.
 
Please know that over the coming months we remain committed to sharing information with you as it becomes available.  Return to play information will be communicated to us from the OMHA (Ontario Minor Hockey Association). The OMHA is our regional governing body that oversees all WMHA players and coaches. As such, we comply with their rules and regulations under the umbrella of the OHF (Ontario Hockey Federation). The OHF is one of 13 Federations that Hockey Canada oversees.
 
Currently, our primary objective is to support planning for the WMHA 2020-2021 season. Over the coming months, we will be exploring various initiatives to ensure everyone’s return to hockey is supported.

 

At this time, we are reviewing our registration rate for next season.  We will be able to set our rate once we have been advised of the season’s start date.  Our intentions as a board is to offer a reduced rate for the upcoming season.  We intend to open 2020-21 registration once more information is made available by the OMHA and the Town of Whitby, and will share details with our membership as soon as possible.

The WMHA office does remain closed at this time, but our WMHA staff is working remotely and are available to answer any questions you may have. All staff members are listed on this page and can be contacted by email.
