2020 House League Program: Registration OPEN
Submitted By Jane Sedo on Friday, September 11, 2020
WMHA is excited to announce registration is now open.

Welcome back to hockey!

We know players and parents are anxious to return to the ice and reconnect with our hockey community. The WMHA Board of Directors is working with our partners to ensure this can happen safely.

Our return to hockey this fall will be different. WMHA will need the support of our entire hockey community to help coaches, volunteers, and players as they make their way back to the ice.

We know the important role hockey plays in the emotional and physical well-being of our players, and we are committed to supporting their return to hockey. As such, WMHA has been working to develop an organized House League program this season that maintains a safe and healthy environment for our players, parents, and coaches.
We are currently in Stage 3b of the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) Return to Hockey and as such will be following the direction of the OHF, OMHA and Hockey Canada as return to the ice. We know the pandemic has taken away lots of the things in amateur sport that we are used to seeing and this may be disappointing, however we are hopeful that everyone can embrace and support what we are able to do.
House League Program Details
The 2020-21 WMHA Registration Fee will be paid in two installments this season. The first installment is due upon registration and is $400, the second installment of $250 is due January 1st, 2021.
There are a limited number of spaces available in each division. This is due to limited ice availability and a mandated reduction in team size. In a typical season teams have between 12-18 players per team depending on age. This season in order to adhere to the restrictions placed upon hockey teams by the Town of Whitby, OMHA and OHF we can only have 10 players per team.

Registration will remain open until September 25th.

Parents can find financial support resources on our website Registration - Financial Support; and if you require alternate payment arrangements please contact our office.

WMHA Refund Policy

Please ensure you select staggered payments when processing your registration through the Hockey Canada website. This payment option is available after you checkout

If you played in the DS Program in 2019-2020 (2012 & 2013) you are eligible to register for the Representative (Tier 1 & 2) program.

As per the OMHA we are not permitted to offer a Rostered Select program in 2020.

If you need assistance completing your registration please contact us.

Registration will remain open until September 25th.

Season Structure
The season will start on October 17th, 2020 and run for 18 weeks concluding in late February. The OHF mandates that all associations must start their season with a two-week practice/development period. In applicable divisions, players will move to games after the two-week period.
Team Composition

  • When possible, teams will be kept the same, or very similar to 2019 -2020 season

  • Games will be 4 on 4 and/or 3 on 3

Player Safety
These are the current guidelines with all of our stakeholders and are subject to change as we move through the various phases of reopening.
  • One spectator per player will be permitted into the arena.
  • Durham Health Unit permits up to 50 people within each arena.
  • The Town of Whitby allows a maximum of 20 skaters on the ice at one time.
  • Players, parents, coaches and game officials will be required to complete a health screening check before each ice-time. WMHA volunteers will be required to maintain contact tracing records.
  • We will be looking for a volunteer from each team to act as the Communication Manager. They will be responsible for facilitating health screening, recording attendance and for disseminating information to players and parents related to COVID-19.
  • At this time, dressing room access will be limited. Players are expected to come to the rink with the majority of their equipment on. The Town of Whitby will be providing further direction related to where players can put on their remaining items.
  • Anyone entering the arena will be required to wear a mask indoors. Masks are not required to be worn while on the ice.
More details related to player safety will be communicated as we progress but WMHA encourages all parents and players to read the Hockey Canada Safety Guidelines
Please note, our program must still be approved by the OMHA and Durham Public Health Unit, therefore changes may occur prior to our official start. We remain committed to sharing information with you as it becomes available. Please ensure you visit the website and follow us on social media for updates.
It will take a strong collective effort from our volunteers, coaches, players, and parents to ensure a safe and positive return to hockey. We are confident our hockey community will meet this challenge and we look forward to seeing you at the rink soon.
Thank you - WMHA
