2022-2023 U9 and Below Programming Outline and Coach Applications
WMHA is pleased to announce our U9 and below Rep Programming for the 2022-2023 Season.

In the spring of 2022, the Ontario Hockey Federation in conjunction with the OMHA, announced the elimination of Representative hockey at U9 and below.

U9 and below programming is only permitted at the House League, Local League or MD (Minor Development) levels, across the OMHA and its member Associations.
This decision was deferred from the 2021-2022 season and will be in place for the 2022-2023 season.
Effective for the 2023-2024 season, the OHF will be in full compliance with Hockey Canada Pathways and eliminate all tiering at U9 and below.
The WMHA Rep Committee has made a concerted effort to provide our U9 and below players with multiple opportunities to meet the needs and skill level of our young hockey players. WMHA must also align itself with OMHA guidelines and adhere to OHF policies.
After consultation with our Lakeshore partners, WMHA will be offering the following programming at U9 and below for the 2022-2023 season:

Up to four MD teams comprising between 15 to 18 players per team. The MD teams may compete against Lakeshore opponents and transition to full ice hockey after January 15th, 2023.

MD Jamborees/Tournaments will also be inclusive of the MD program.
Please note, the number of MD teams at U9 is contingent on registration numbers.

WMHA is committed to both a viable MD and HL program at U9.

The WMHA Rep Committee is reintroducing our 'Silver Stick' program. MD will not be offered moving forward.
The Silver Stick program will comprise four teams of 15 to 18 players per team. These teams will play one another in a competitive and development based environment.

Silver Stick teams will also have the opportunity to enter Jamborees/Tournaments throughout the season.
Similar to U9, the U8 Silver Stick program and its four teams are contingent on registration numbers.

WMHA is committed to both a viable Silver Stick and HL program at U8.

Any U8 player looking to be evaluated for the U9 MD program must have approval from the VP of Rep and U9 Rep Director.  Strict evaluation criteria must be met for the player to be considered.

House League programming will be offered at our U7 division, however, a very limited number of U7 players will be afforded the opportunity to participate in the U8 Silver Stick Program if deemed suitable following the evaluation skates.
Both the MD and Silver Stick programs fall under the Rep umbrella of the WMHA. Players selected to be in these programs will receive additional practices, games and development. Families who are successful making these two programs should be aware that additional costs attached to Rep programming will be incurred over and beyond the WMHA registration fee.

Families interested in MD at U9 or Silver Stick at U8 first must register with the WMHA.

All players will be required to purchase the 'Tryout Passport.'

The Tryout Passport will provide our U9 and below players with Prep skates in September. Prep skates are non evaluative but will provide an opportunity for players to be exposed to the drills and skills they will see during evaluations.
U9 and below Evaluations will take place the third week of September. During this time, players will be selected by a panel composed of coaches and our Development Team to participate in the MD or Silver Stick program respectively.

Dates and times for Prep Skates and Evaluation Skates will be made available later in August. Please continue to look for updates on the WMHA website.
