Update to WMHA Rep Programming for the 2023/2024 Hockey Season
On March 9th, the OMHA provided an update to all member Associations pertaining to Seasonal Structure and Representative Programming for the 2023/2023 hockey season.
At this time the WMHA would like to highlight some key changes:
Prep Skates and Tryouts (Evaluations)
Prep Skates will be provided for all age groups U10 to U16 prior to the commencement of Spring Tryouts (Evaluations). Each age group will be offered four Prep Skates. These sessions are not mandatory. A Prep Skate schedule will be provided later this month.
As mentioned in a previous communication, tryouts will take place according to the following schedule:
AAA - April 24th to April 30th
AA - May 1st to May 7th
A - May 8th to May 14th
BB - May 15th to May 21st
A comprehensive Tryout (Evaluation) Schedule will be made available later this month. WMHA will also provide details on Registration and the Evaluation Passport which will be required for each player to participate in Rep Evaluations.
BB Representative Hockey
Effective the 2023 hockey season BB level hockey will not include body contact at any age group. The OMHA has made this change to provide a Rep level of hockey without body contact but will include a complete rep season schedule, playoff, and OMHA playdown.
U8/U9 MD Hockey
The OMHA announced the reintroduction of MD hockey.
WMHA will provide an MD program for our U8 and U9 hockey players. Evaluations for this program will take place in September of 2023 as per OMHA guidelines.
MD hockey in Whitby is residency based and will include additional on ice opportunities, development, and games versus other Lakeshore Associations, while adhering to all policies and regulations as outlined in the U9 Hockey Canada Pathway.
Coaching applications for U8/U9 MD hockey will be made available in August.

Lastly, the WMHA Rep Committee would like to announce the addition of a U13 BB team for the 2023/24 hockey season.
