Communication of Rules - President Message
Submitted By Jaclyn Morden on Saturday, September 26, 2015
Whitby Minor Hockey Association (WMHA) has received feedback and inquiries around program scheduling/tryouts and overlap with faith-based holidays.  WMHA has listened to this feedback and is sensitive to our community and in May of 2015, we updated many ordinates with our Rules of Operation (located on our website under “About Us”), one of which was specifically about exemption from programming as a result of faith-based holidays.

It is difficult for us to identify all potential overlaps, however if any conflict arises between our membership and scheduled programing, our rules ensure that our members can contact their coaches/appropriate board members asking for exemption from the conflicting programing and this will be granted.

WMHA receives its scheduled ice from the Town of Whitby and it is based upon their operating days and hours, and much of our programing is linked to sequence and timing from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) and Hockey Canada.  It is important that we continue to provide a robust hockey program in our community while doing our best to provide accommodation or alternatives for all potential foreseen conflicts.
