Midget AA win Best of the Best Tournament
It was definitely worth the drive to Acton and Georgetown
for the Whitby Midget AA Wildcats this Thanksgiving weekend. The Wildcats
finished the tournament a perfect 6-0 with a hard fought 3-1 victory over the Hamilton
Huskies in the tournament final.
Preliminary round victories over Brampton (2-1), LaSalle (5-2), and Rideau St. Lawrence (3-1) put the Wildcats in the driver’s seat heading into the Quarter-Finals. A 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Valley Aces set the stage for a Semi-final clash with the host Halton Hills Thunder squad. A tight checking affair for two periods, the game was tied going into the final frame. The tenacious fore-checking of the Wildcats in the third period finally saw them break open the Halton defence with a resulting 5-2 win. The Huskies proved a formidable foe in the final but once again the Wildcats prevailed with two big goals in the final frame to secure the championship.
