Team 02, Atom 1, 2014-2015 (Whitby Minor Hockey)

The Black Hawks with growing success throughout the year, reached a point last weekend that success was not a right of passage but a commitment to sportsmanship and fair play to the young men that defended our squad 5-1 (Team 4). With the playoffs in full swing, the Black Hawks were looking to rebound after a devastating lost to Team 6 and their hard fought comeback three weeks ago by edging the Hawks 4 -2 in the opening game of the playoffs. The Hawks have yet returned to full form but are now looking down the barrel to the last 2 games of the playoffs.

The Black Hawks went into battle with the first place Team 4 Mustangs on Sunday Afternoon. The second place Black Hawks knew that a Super Bowl Sunday date with the Mustangs wasn't going to be easy, and it certainly wasn't. The game had a playoff atmosphere to it and both teams seemed to be set on winning the final meeting of the two in the regular season. The Hawks goalie was ill and therefore Evan Jae K. (normally a hard working centre men), took to the net in hopes of lifting the Hawks to a victory.

The Black Hawks took flight Saturday against a very good Sharks (team 3) team. The final score was 3 to 2 for the hawks but the battle was heart pounding and nerve racking. The sharks finished the first period with a 1-0 lead, however early into the second Evan K equalled the score on some good old fashion hard work. The assist came from Ben F on a nice little pass. The battle continued until the third when Navan S. was able to slip around some sharks for and a nice shot for the 2-1 lead.

The Team 2 Black Hawks took to the ice Saturday against Team 6. A great effort by all the players with a very close result. The Hawks took an early two goal lead in the first period with Jack G scoring on a couple of great shots. The goals were a result of great playmaking from Joshua F and Ethan M. Great effort Jack! The Team 6 Reds kept pushing and trimmed the lead to 2-1. Joshua F with a great effort and some hard work from his line mates lifted the Hawks back to a 2 goal lead at 3-1, only to have the Reds come back with another goal of their own in the third period.

The Team 2 Black Hawks took on the first place Team 4 Mustangs Saturday morning with a narrow 2-0 win, however the game was not registered due to the absence of a second referee. Ethan M. started the scoring in the first period and Joshua scored the second goal from a pretty pass from Jack G. Great effort by the boys and a nice shout-out by Jayden. The Mustangs played well and pushed real hard in the third, however the hawks were able to pull out the win. Although the game won't be registered and will be rescheduled at a later date, both teams played well. It should be a great rematch when ...

The Atom 1 - Black Hawks played to their first win this season. The boys worked extremely hard all the way to a 2-0 victory. Excellent goaltending by Jayden and a highlight goal by Peter to seal the victory. Great effort by all the boys. Always remember, NEVER GIVE UP!!! Coach Mike
