Minor Midget, 2017-2018, AAA (Whitby Minor Hockey)

Congratulations to five members of the 2017/2018 Whitby Minor Midget AAA team for being selected in the 2018 OHL draft. Christian Stevens 110th overall  to the Windsor Spitfires Ben Van Waterschoot 115th overall to the Owen Sound Attack Myles Perry 168th overall to the Mississauga Steelheads Isaac Sooklal  206th overall  to the Saginaw Spirit Mason Cowan 295th overall to the Owen Sound Attack We are so proud of each and every one of you, you have worked very hard to get here, wishing you all nothing but success moving forward!!!

The Whitby Minor Midget AAA team brought home the championship from the Dale Parker Minor Midget AAA Showcase Tournament held November 10-12th in Brantford, ON.    The tournament was full of tough competition and excitement with games that saw the players rally together. During one game they were down 4-1 and turned it around for a 8-5 win, next in the 1/4 finals they pulled out a 1-0 victory with 44 seconds remaining on the clock, and then in the semi final an overtime 3 on 3 goal to advance. The Minor Midget AAA team travelled to Pennsylvania and Ohio on a USHL/NCAA/OHL tour over the weekend of October 19th-22nd.  They began their visit in Ohio with USHL team the Youngstown Phantoms, next they visited NCAA team the Mercyhurst Lakers in Erie, Pennsylvania. They met with both teams staff, toured their facilities, and had an on ice practice. Their final day was spent with the OHL Erie Otters; the GM talked with the team, then the Erie coaches ran a dryland session and on ice practice. 

On September 30th the Minor Midget AAA team, along with their parents, suited up for the second annual Tyler Hanson Memorial Hockey Tournament. This event is held in memory of a local hockey player who passed away in a tragic accident two years ago; Tyler's legacy continues as funds are raised in his name for Sick Kids Hospital and Big Brother and Sisters. Tyler's older brother, Travis Hanson, played with the Whitby Bantam AAA team last season and is now an opponent on the ice as he plays for Central Ontario Wolves. 

Whitby Minor Midget AAA Home Opener is tonight at Iroquois Park Pad #1 at 9pm.
